Stocks surge on Friday after a week of mixed trading sessions. On Monday, stocks dropped significantly due to continued concerns about inflation/recession.
The middle of the week was relatively quiet, with modest gains and losses. Tech had a sharp rally on Thursday due to Oracle's better than expected earnings, and the market rallied as a whole on Friday after news that Merrill Lynch might receive an investment infusion from Singapore's state-owned investment fund.
Next week will likely see relatively light volume due to the Christmas holiday.
